Advanced Numerical Methods and Data Analytics for Engineers

This course was designed by Prof. Banerjee in Fall 2020. This course is introductory to many advanced level classes e.g. 700, 800 in engineering.

This is specifically designed to give fundamental understanding of Numerical Methods that we engineers have to use everyday. Before learning FEM method their fundamental mathematics must be understood such that use of FEM does not become a black box effect. Different spatial and temporal discretization schemes with their respective convergence criteria is taught is this course. Dynamic equation like ODE, PDE like Heat Equations, Wave equations are solved numerically. Thus MATLAB or Python based computer programming is also taught. How to optimize an engineering design is taught through MATLAB / Python. Introduction to data analytics, statistical analysis, machine learning, and artificial neural network are given such a way that students have clear understanding of ML and AI instead of using them blindly.

This course will help the graduate students for their goal driven higher level course selection. This course is also valuable for the  undergraduate students those who looking for job and want to mature in engineering corporate world or in government agencies / labs.
