Prof. Stefik’s Lab Explores Composition-Driven Gains in Lithium-Ion Battery Performance

New research from Professor Morgan Stefik’s lab explores how small changes in material composition can make a big impact on lithium-ion battery performance. 

The study focuses on niobium–tungsten oxide materials, a promising class of battery anodes designed for high-power applications and fast charging. ⚡ By using an off-stoichiometry strategy, the team shows a practical path toward improving how these materials perform at high current rates. 🔬

"Stefik lab found a simple way to make niobium–tungsten oxide battery materials with smaller particles and more surface area, allowing lithium ions to move in and out more quickly. This improved high-power performance and durability, delivering very fast 3-minute charge/discharge rates while retaining 90% of its capacity after 1,000 cycles"
