This hands-on, full-day (8-hour) workshop introduces students to the complete CATIA V5 workflow used in aircraft conceptual design. Starting from aircraft three-view drawings, participants create reference sketches, develop surface and solid models, assemble components, and generate professional engineering drawings. The workshop is offered annually to support students in the Aircraft Design course.
Sketch → Loft → Assemble → Draft
Topics include:
- Importing and scaling aircraft three-view sketches
- Creating reference geometry and tracing aircraft profiles
- Creating ISO-Constrained 2D Sketches
- Building high-quality surface models using CATIA V5
- Converting surfaces into solid models and refining geometry
- Applying parametric modeling techniques and design best practices
- Generating engineering drawings using the Drafting Workbench
- Preparing models and drawings suitable for design documentation
Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with engineering graphics or CAD is recommended.
Audience: Aerospace engineering students, particularly those enrolled in Aircraft Design.
Duration: 8 hours (one-day workshop)
