About Us

Our Mission

The McNAIR Center advances South Carolina’s knowledge-based economy through innovative research, interdisciplinary education, and collaboration with aerospace, allied industries, and government partners. Our goal is to support industry-driven work in areas such as composites, advanced manufacturing, unmanned systems, and digital transformation.

Who We Are

The McNAIR Aerospace Center advances workforce development through manufacturing research and industry engagement. Faculty from the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing work alongside student employees on industry-led projects in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, automation, additive manufacturing, and Department of Defense research to prepare students to lead the future workforce.

A leader in advanced composites research and skilled workforce development in South Carolina, the McNAIR Aerospace Center combines world-class facilities, strong industry partnerships, and nationally recognized researchers in high-rate manufacturing. Established through the support of Anita Zucker, Darla Moore, and Marva Smalls and named for astronaut and South Carolina native Ronald E. McNair, the Center strengthens the state’s knowledge-based economy while helping students launch careers in South Carolina’s growing manufacturing sector.
