Alex Jane, a Spring 2025 graduate of the University of South Carolina College of Engineering and Computing, is now continuing his academic journey as a Graduate Research Assistant while pursuing his master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at USC. In his role, Alex conducts research on induction heating of thermoplastic composites, contributing to advancements in composite manufacturing and expanding his expertise in materials and engineering innovation.
Looking back on his undergraduate experience, Alex credits his time working in the McNair Center for shaping his future path. Hands-on research opportunities allowed him to explore advanced engineering concepts early on, ultimately inspiring him to pursue graduate studies and further immerse himself in the research environment.
When asked what advice he would give current USC students, Alex encourages them to stay open to new experiences: “Branch out and participate in clubs and intramural activities to learn new things and meet new people.” He believes that stepping outside your comfort zone not only builds community, but also opens doors to unexpected opportunities, just as it did for him.
