Dr. Paul Ziehl

Paul Ziehl is the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and Computing at the University of South Carolina, where he works to align faculty expertise with the college’s research enterprise. He is also a professor of structural engineering in the Departments of Mechanical and Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Ziehl’s research focuses on aerospace composites and advanced structural systems, with extensive experience leading multi-institution and industry-partnered projects. His work spans Department of Defense, NASA, and NIST-supported efforts, including real-time structural monitoring, aircraft control surface evaluation, and composite damage assessment. His research integrates data-driven experimentation, machine learning, and physics-based simulations to advance next-generation aerospace technologies.
