Mehdi Shahzamanian

Mehdi Shahzamanian is a Research Assistant Professor at the McNAIR Center for Aerospace Engineering at the University of South Carolina. His research spans multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, civil, materials science, and aerospace engineering, with a primary focus on solid mechanics, structural engineering, and materials science.

He has a strong interest in analyzing problems in applied and computational solid mechanics and materials science, with an emphasis on understanding the underlying physical phenomena governing material behavior. During his PhD studies at McMaster University in Canada, his work was primarily computational in nature; however, he also developed a strong background in experimental research.

To date, he has gained experience across a wide range of research areas, including continuum mechanics, fracture mechanics, impact dynamics, metal forming, and structural systems. Currently, he is working on research related to the structural health monitoring of materials and structures using artificial intelligence (AI)–based models.
