Dr. Won’s research focuses on advancing next-generation combustion systems that achieve high efficiency, fuel flexibility, and ultra-low emissions. His work investigates combustion chemistry under near-limit engine conditions, where complex interactions between chemical kinetics and thermo-fluid dynamics govern performance and emissions. Research areas include detailed kinetic modeling of real transportation and alternative fuels, development of controlled experimental platforms to study turbulent combustion dynamics, plasma-assisted combustion for stabilizing near-limit flames, and the creation of advanced diagnostic techniques to better understand and control combustion processes.
