Clinton Webb
Dr. Clinton Webb is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, bringing decades of experience in vascular physiology and smooth muscle research. Prior to joining USC in 2021, he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology at Augusta University from 1999 to 2020, and held faculty positions at the University of Michigan from 1979 to 1999. His research focuses on the physiology of smooth muscle, with particular emphasis on vascular reactivity in hypertension and diabetes, mechanisms of sexual dysfunction, and bladder dysfunction in metabolic disease. Dr. Webb’s work explores cellular and subcellular mechanisms of vascular smooth muscle contraction and relaxation, including the roles of nitric oxide, ion channel dynamics, adrenergic neurotransmission, and intercellular communication. He earned his Ph.D. in Anatomy from the University of Iowa, after completing his M.S. and B.A. in Physiology at Southern Illinois University. Throughout his career, Dr. Webb has been recognized for advancing our understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology and translating that knowledge into therapeutic insight.
