Whether through job shadowing, weekly site visits, or extended project placements, partners gain valuable support while helping build South Carolina’s future-ready workforce.
Externship Models
C4IS offers multiple externship formats to meet the needs of both students and industry partners:
Job Shadowing
1-3 days:
Students spend short periods on-site observing professional workflows, gaining exposure to tools, technologies, and best practices.
Weekly On-Site Engagement
part-time:
Students visit your facility once a week during the semester to support ongoing projects or process-improvement initiatives while balancing their coursework.
Extended Project Placements
4-12 weeks:
For companies seeking deeper engagement, students can take part in structured short-term projects, on-site, remote, or hybrid-under mentor supervision.
Fellowship Tracks & Externship Placements
Our fellows specialize in key industry tracks designed around South Carolina’s most in-demand technologies. By hosting an extern, your company can provide hands-on experience aligned with one or more of these focus areas.
Master the fundamentals of Deep Learning. Build and deploy AI/DL models for visual inspection, robotics, and automation using NVIDIA Jetson/Orin and different deep learning frameworks.
3D modeling, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to create, test, and optimize products virtually before physical manufacturing.
Protection of digital systems, networks, and industrial operations using both traditional defense mechanisms and AI-driven threat intelligence to predict and neutralize attacks.
Developing data-driven virtual replicas of physical systems to bridge the physical and digital worlds, enabling predictive maintenance, process optimization, and smarter decisionmaking across industries.
